Gymnastics Community’s Favorite Moments from Paris 2024
From emotional victories to inspiring comebacks, we asked top athletes and coaches what made this year’s games so unforgettable.
The gymnastics events at the Paris 2024 Olympics were nothing short of extraordinary. It was incredible to see both seasoned champions and rising stars as they competed on the world stage.
From the breathtaking routines from some of our favorite Olympic athletes to the iconic comeback of Simone Biles (yes! This was our personal highlight), this year’s Games brought us moments that we won’t forget soon. As the games concluded, we spoke with some of the gymnastics community’s most passionate voices to get their take on the most special moments from these Olympics.
Carlos Yulo and Kaylia Nemour Shined Brightest
Belgian national champion Antoine Seghers had no doubt about his favorite moments from Paris 2024. “My favourite event was obviously the men’s artistic gymnastics! And my two favourite moments were first when Carlos Yulo from the Philippines won the floor final, and secondly when Kaylia Nemour from Algeria won the uneven bars final,” Antoine shared.
For Antoine, these victories were about more than just medals—they were about the hard work and determination that each athlete brought to their routines. Carlos and Kaylia both deserved those gold medals so much because of their hard work and history, he told me.
Carlos Yulo’s floor routine was a perfect blend of power, precision, and artistry. This earned him a well-deserved place on the podium. Similarly, Kaylia Nemour’s win on the uneven bars was a triumph of skill and focus. It marked a significant achievement in her gymnastics career.
Camaraderie and Biles’ Return Stole the Show
The spirit of teamwork and mutual support was another standout feature of the Paris 2024 gymnastics events. Gymnastics coach Coach Jade has one of our favorite instagram accounts to follow. We talked to her about Paris 2024 and this is what she told us: “Regarding the gymnastics in Paris, I loved seeing the complicity of the girls. They were all encouraging each other during the finals,” she said. This sense of camaraderie among the athletes was a reminder of the true essence of the Olympics—coming together in the spirit of friendly competition and mutual respect.
But for Coach Jade, the most iconic moment of the Games was the return of Simone Biles to the Olympic stage. “The best part of these Games was seeing Simone Biles in shape again at the Olympic Games,” she remarked. Simone’s incredible comeback was a highlight not only for her, but also for us at Bagjump as well as probably for all gymnastics fans around the world. This moment really underscored her status as one of the greatest gymnasts in history.
Adult Women Gymnasts Shattering Expectations
For Dr. Shira Lewis from Precision Choreography, one of the most powerful aspects of Paris 2024 was seeing adult women gymnasts defy expectations and excel on the Olympic stage. “To see so many women in their athletic prime, doing gymnastics well past the age I was always told is ‘too old,’ was incredibly inspiring,” she shared.
Shira was particularly moved by the moment when Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles praised Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade as she accepted the gold medal in the floor final. “Simone has been the queen of floor routines for a decade, but seeing her celebrate Rebeca’s victory with such humility and joy was a powerful Olympic moment,” she reflected. “It showed that even in fierce competition, there is always room for respect and admiration.”
On the men’s side, Shira was thrilled by the growing recognition of men’s gymnastics. “It wasn’t just about watching the US team take bronze or Stephen Nedoroscik rise to stardom,” she explained. “It was the feeling that the world is starting to see how cool men’s gymnastics really is. I hope boys everywhere are inspired to see that there’s a place for them in this sport.”
We also believe Stephen’s flawless performance in combination with his current popularity as the “Pommel Horse Guy“, or “Clark Kent of Pommel Horse”, nicknames he got due to the viral images of him sleeping, are making the sport more popular than ever.
Kaylia Nemour’s Well-Deserved Gold on Bars
For Nicole Langevin, of Precision Choreography, one of the standout moments from Paris 2024 was Kaylia Nemour’s triumph on the uneven bars. “Kaylia has been the best on bars for a while now, but she’s had her share of challenges,” Nicole remarked. “Seeing her finally win the gold in Paris was a beautiful moment for everyone in the gymnastics community. It was a win that felt like it belonged not just to her, but to all of us who have been following her journey.”
Nicole also found the Gymnastics Balance Beam event this year to be particularly captivating. “Balance Beam is usually an event where athletes perform with robotic precision. But this year, we saw an unexpected number of falls and wobbles,” she observed. “It was a reminder that these incredible athletes are human”.
Additionally, she mentioned that watching Alice D’Amato’s steady performance was like watching perfection in motion. “she was simply incredible and truly deserved her win.”, she added.
We won’t deny. The Paris 2024 Olympics provided the gymnastics community with moments of triumph, camaraderie, and inspiration. As we celebrate these highlights, we also look forward to seeing how these stories will inspire the next generation of gymnasts. We are also very excited for the gymnastic events coming in the next months and to keep having a role in offering top-quality equipment in gymnastics that helps athletes achieve their dreams.
